Columbus based developer Long & Wilcox has been tasked with turning around the 199 S. 5th St. Condominium project in downtown Columbus. Last month a Franklin County Judge appointed Long & Wilcox Receiver of the 23-unit loft style building on the south end of downtown. As Receiver, the company will be responsible for managing the property and marketing and selling the available units.

Columbus developer Daimler Group Inc. is joining the fray of downtown housing geared at the 31,000 students attending school in the center city.

Mayor Michael Coleman at a Wednesday panel discussion on downtown development unveiled details of a new 68-unit Daimler project at the southeast corner of Gay Street and Grant Avenue that is set for completion in August 2011. The project, he said, is another step toward meet growing demand for affordable downtown apartments.

Plans for a hotel and parking garage complex in Columbus' Short North have expanded across High Street.

Pizzuti Cos. expects to show its revised plans Jan. 19 to the Italian Village Commission calling for a boutique hotel of up to 130 rooms on a city-owned parking lot a block north of the Cap at Union Station.

"We want to create a dynamic front door to the Short North," said Joel Pizzuti, the company's president. "It's a wonderful project for the city and for the Short North."
